This land was the site of the Berwick Primary School from 1869. At the end of Term 3 in 2003, / the Berwick Primary School was relocated to a new site in Fairholme Boulevard, Berwick.
As a result of the initiative of Mr Bill Hudson and Mr George Wilson CMG; a number of / residents contributed a substantial sum of money to commence a fundraising effort in the local / community. Berwick residents formed a fundraising committee which encouraged further / contributions from the general public with a total $241,000 being raised. These efforts / successfully convinced Council to pursue the acquisition of the Old School House and site for / the purposes of a park for the use and enjoyment of the whole community. Following / agreement with the State Government, the site was sold to Council for $2.405 million.
This community donation and support was followed by further generous contributions from / the Andrews Foundation, Heritage Victoria, Rotary Club of Berwick, /
Ellis Loveridge Memorial Committee, National Trust Casey Cardinia Branch, Berwick / Pakenham Historical Society and the Australian Plants Society / towards the development of various aspects of the heritage building and park.
The City of Casey is proud to provide Pioneers Park for the community. The choice of the word / Pioneers is to recognise those generous citizens who supported the acquisition of this land – / they are the pioneers of this era who should be recognised by the generations who follow.
Opened on 23 October 2005 / by the Mayor of the City of Casey / Cr Neil Lucas PSM JP
