Pepi’s Land

Sam and Alice Pepi grew potatoes here on about 56 hectares of land. They were advised by the then Victorian Ministry of Agriculture to use dieldrin to control disease in the crop. When dieldrin was later found to be dangerous and the land contaminated and unsuitable for potato growing the State Government purchased the land as a goodwill gesture. It was subsequently exchanged for two local community reserves in the Emerald District by the Shire of Pakenham.
