At a meeting held in 1926 between the various religious denominations in the district it was decided to build a church for the use of all beliefs. Mr C Whiteside was elected president of the newly formed committee with Mr J Hammond as secretary and Mr I Wright the treasurer. Mr Wright promised to donate the land on which the church would be built if building was commenced within three years. The Officer Union Church was built by Mr J McLean at a cost of approximately seven hundred pounds on land donated by Mr I Wright. It was officially opened on 21 December 1929.
The church’s first five trustees were George F Tivendale, Augustus E Stevens, George E Crook, James Hicks and Thomas C Whiteside.
