  1. Paul Roche says

    Who was Tom Roche

    • Hello Paul,
We don’t have a lot of information on Tom but we found this paragraph in Maryknoll: history of a Catholic Rural Settlement by Gael White. (page 31)

To extend to the local community the services provided to the builders, the Hardware shop opened in Nar Nar Goon in 1966, with Tom Roche as Manager. Assistants included Phillip Roche and Mark Sewell. Several of the Maryknoll students found useful Saturday morning work ‘down at the Hardware’. Brendan Noonan became the final Manager, before closure. The shop provided over twenty years of service to the people of nar Nar Goon and district, but as people became more mobile and the big stores in Pakenham could offer a more competitive range and prices, this small town business was living on borrowed time.
