The above photo and information came from an article in the Pakenham Gazette 16 February 1983. It shows from left to right: Graeme Sweeney, Cr Syd Pargeter, John Lloyd, Harold Keys & Norman Beaumont.

John Charles Lloyd (1906-1984) inherited Holly Green from an uncle in the late 1930s and renamed it Brechin. A portion of Brechin’s Gardens remain at Fountain Gate and can be visited.

Like Sidney Webb before him, John Lloyd played a prominent role in the development of Narre Warren. He served on the committees of a number of local organisations: the Narre Warren Hall, the Narre Warren Progress Association, the Narre Hallam Football Club, the Narre Warren Recreation Reserve and the Berwick Agricultural & Horticultural Society.

John Lloyd was instrumental in the formation of the Narre Warren Fire Brigade in 1945, serving as Captain for 21 years.

230 invited guests watched as John Lloyd unveiled a plaque proclaiming the space between the council offices and the library the JC Lloyd Square on Sunday 13 February 1983. The newspaper tells us that he then planted a Moreton Bay Fig to commemorate the City of Berwick’s 10th anniversary.
