Hector Anderson Reserve commemorates the life of Hector Anderson Marriott.
Hector was born on 16 February 1904 at Moorabbin. He was the tenth child of the eleven children born to John and Mary Ann Marriott between 1884 and 1905. The family had a market garden on the corner of Chesterville and South Roads in Moorabbin. Hector attended the Bentleigh Primary School until the age of fourteen when he began working on the family’s market garden. When Hector’s father retired and moved to Oakleigh, Hector’s older brother Alfred took over the family home and Hector lived with Alfred and his wife Gladys. Hector and Alfred eventually became partners in the market garden when they purchased the property from their father John on his retirement. Hector married Edith Watt in 1927, he was a Deacon at the Bentleigh Baptist Church for many years. In 1957 Hector and Alfred sold the South Road property and relocated to Springvale Road, Keysborough. They also farmed cattle at Carrum Downs and Lyndhurst. Hector died on 13 November 1987 and is buried with Edith in the Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery.
